LEVITATION Superconductivity At ultra low temperatures, many metals become superconductors with zero resistance, so that currents can flow forever without decaying. Type II superconductors trap magnetic fields and can be used for magnetic levitation. High temperature superconductors, discovered in 1986, open the possibility of widespread applications of this esoteric phenomenon.
