WOMEN IN A LAB
From Then to Now
Joan M. Hart designs filters for use in outer space. This one is for the space shuttle. It is made of rare and specially designed materials that are super strong.
Technological advances are based on fundamental scientific research and study. Scientist Joan Hart exemplifies the many women who have made significant scientific and technological contributions. Early in the 20th century, Marie Curie studied radioactivity and Lise Meitner explained nuclear fission. During World War II women helped develop products in support of the war effort. Today some women design spacecraft while others develop cutting edge medical products.
